August Moon is a Chinese restaurant located on Milton next to Supercuts. Unlike some of the other Chinese restaurants in town, August Moon is not buffet style. However, this does not seem to hinder their business. The food is filling, warm and tasty, and because it is located within walking distance of the university, it is a great place to pick up a quick bite for lunch or dinner.
Upon arrival, my party was seated promptly in a comfortable booth where we were left to look over the menu. The first thing that caught my attention was a paper with Chinese horoscopes under the glass of the table. I began to look for my sign, which I found out was the tiger. I liked this because it was entertaining and it gave little descriptions of personality traits and signs compatible for love.

I also noticed the restaurant was playing Chinese music, which really helped bring the experience to life. The walls were fuchsia-colored and some neon beer signs hung as decorations. Although the decorations were not really as festive as they could be, I never felt like they were overly inappropriate.
When it came time to order, I picked the vegetable chow mien, and my guest ordered the General Tso’s Chicken. Both dishes came with soup, rice, two crab puffs, two egg rolls and chips with sweet and sour sauce. This was much more than what I had expected, and I thought the price was a great deal.
A waitress brought out the soup, crab puffs, chips and egg rolls first. The egg flower soup was a perfect treat to end a cold day. It was warm and very calming. I also liked the fried chips — both alone and with the sweet and sour sauce, which was bright red and more sweet than sour.
The crab puffs were a bread-like shell with crab cream in the middle. I thought it was interesting the middle was soft while the outside was crunchy. Although I do not normally eat egg rolls, I decided to give the ones here a try. The rolls were filled with vegetables and eggs mixed with tofu. The rolls were a little on the small side, but they tasted amazing. I wished they had given us more.
The food was brought out by the same waitress less than 10 minutes later. My dish was humongous and had fried noodles with tons of fried vegetables, including broccoli, mushrooms, carrots and pea pods. The fried rice also had peas mixed into it.
I really liked that the vegetables tasted fresh. I have noticed sometimes the vegetables in chow mein will taste like the sauce it was cooked in, but these vegetables still had their original taste to them. The chicken, which also had broccoli, was enjoyable because it was juicy and spicy. I thought both dishes were perfectly proportioned, because although there were no leftovers, I was not left hungry.
I thought the food at August Moon was amazing, and I will go a step further and say there was nothing negative about the experience. The staff was kind and helpful, and the food was equally satisfying. I will be trying this restaurant again in the future.

Whenever Flagstaff residents and students pull out their chopsticks and cravings for Chinese, August Moon is the first name that comes to mind.
Situated at 1300 S. Milton Rd., August Moon peeks out at Flagstaff’s busy main drag. Offering take-out and later hours, many NAU students pick August Moon when they get that sweet and sour craving. The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. every day, staying open until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
If the opportunity arises, I suggest eating in instead of simply dialing in. The interior of the restaurant is surprisingly nice. Embroidered cloth hangings are framed around the room, balanced with delicate Chinese paintings. Bamboo dividers are strategically placed to both divide up the room and provide a little privacy for diners.

I love this restaurant. I have lived in Mesa for the past 5 years and still compare every Chinese restaurant to August Moon, and not one has stacked up yet. [26 Jan 2007 16:20:13].[http://www.chefmoz.org/United_States/AZ/Flagstaff/August_Moon983896508.html]

Phoenix, AZ01/26/2008 August Moon always brings back memories of my good ole' college days at NAU. It was a treat when my friends and I decided to order-in from August Moon. I still remember what I always ordered (which, by the way, is the same even today!): Mongolian beef, fried rice, won ton soup and ice tea! Sometimes, I get a craving for that dinner special, and I'll make the two-hour trip up the mountain just to eat at August Moon. Ahhhh the memories...
